Anna Wintour Steps Down as Editor-In-Chief of U.S. Vogue But It's Actually a Promotion
Anna Wintour has now become the Global Editorial Director for Vogue - making her the primary editorial powerhouse behind upcoming international Vogue editions.
BREAKING: Anna Wintour No Longer Holds The Title of Editor-In-Chief of American Vogue.
Instead - She’s GLOBAL EDITORIAL DIRECTOR.
Here’s what that means for American Vogue & Anna...
After a 37 year career, Anna Wintour announced she will be stepping down from her position as Editor-In-Chief of Vogue Magazine.
American Vogue is seeking a new ‘Head of Editorial Content’, although much is uncertain about who will fill Anna’s shoes.
The new head of editorial content will report directly to Anna Wintour and manage the editorial content for U.S. Vogue.
Prospective candidates have yet to be named, and the fashion industry is feeling high anticipation to see who will take the title.
Anna will remain as Chief Content Officer - managing editorial content for brands such as:
GQ
Vanity Fair
Condé Nast Traveler
Glamour
Allure
Teen Vogue
Wired
World of Interiors
& more...
She will further hold the title of Vogue’s Global Editorial Director, becoming the ultimate head of editorial content for all Vogue international editions. This allows Anna to give more time and support to Vogue’s global markets.
“Anybody in a creative field knows how essential it is never to stop growing in one’s work. When I became the editor of Vogue, I was eager to prove to all who might listen that there was a new, exciting way to imagine an American fashion magazine.”
“Now, I find that my greatest pleasure is helping the next generation of impassioned editors storm the field with their own ideas, supported by a new, exciting view of what a major media company can be. And that is exactly the kind of person we need to now look for to be HOEC for US Vogue.”

Anna’s editorial power will still be felt within Vogue Magazine internationally and her responsibilities won’t shift - including overseeing Vogue World and the Met Ball.
